MM"One Financial World"
MMSingapore conference leads to international contacts

The 42nd ACI World Congress – “One Financial World” was held in Singapore this past May. Attending were some 1,000 treasury and financial markets professionals, comprising heads of treasury and financial markets, chief dealers, risk managers, senior dealing, sales and operations personnel of financial institutions, and fund managers.
It was the first time since 1980 that members of ACI-The Financial Markets Association, an umbrella body based in Paris gathered in Singapore for a congress. The ACI has some 18,000 individual members from 81 countries and is the largest international association in the wholesale financial markets.
Mr Lee Hsien Loong, Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore and Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), opened the congress and presented the keynote address on 25 May 2001.

FMAC representatives at the ACI-FMA Council meeting: (l-r) C.J. Gavsie, FMAC Programming Director; Rob Wittmann, Regional Representative for the Americas; Sharon Grewal, FMAC President.

From a personal viewpoint, after being a member of FMAC for almost five years, I would encourage any fellow member to attend one of the ACI World Congresses. The wealth of global contacts that can be made within a few short days cannot be matched through any other comparative organization. For those individuals that question how will they benefit from being a member of FMAC, this conference clearly demonstrated the advantages, both in regards to contacts and sources of market information.
Along with Sharon Grewal (President) and Rob Wittmann (Americas representative on the ACI Executive Committee), I would proudly like to congratulate Canada on being granted the opportunity to host the 2007 World Congress. I encourage members to get involved with the preparations surrounding this event, as it will further demonstrate the benefits of belonging to an organization such as FMAC.
