MM100 golfers ignore rain, wind, and cold
MMto support Hospital for Sick Children

On 16 June 2001, 100 Golfers attended the 5th Annual Charity Golf Classic at Angus Glen Golf and Country Club. In the five years that FMAC has hosted this event over $160,000 has been raised for the Hospital for Sick Children. This year’s donation to the hospital will be over $20,000.
The Tournament Organizing Committee would like to thank our many sponsors and supporters. Thanks to Joe Barbaro from Reuters for his continued support and as our main sponsor of this event. Harlow Meyers stepped up this year to sponsor the cocktail reception. Hole sponsors included many repeat supporters and some new names. They were: Bank of America, New York, for two holes; State Street Canada; TD Securities; BMO-Nesbitt Burns; CIBC World Markets; HSBC Bank Toronto; RBC Dominion Securities Inc.; RBC DS (Canada Desk and Forward Currencies); Freedom International Brokerage Inc.; Tullet & Tokyo Liberty Ltd.; Prebon Yamane (Canada) Inc.; Credit Suisse First Boston Corporation, New York; EBS Dealing Resources International Ltd.; Toronto Stock Exchange; and the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan Board – Foreign Exchange. Special thanks to the hard work of committee members Jeff Blanco and Mary Catalfo.

(l-r) Karl Berger, Lloyd Komori, Bill Meckevech, and Brendan Stark, the winning foursome.

Stan Kahkonen and Rowena Penabella, Longest Drive winners.

Along with a shotgun start golfers were greeted with wind, rain, and cold as they took off for their first tee. But these conditions did not deter the winning foursome from coming in at 8-under. The winning team included Lloyd Komori, Brendan Stark, Bill Meckevech, and “Honest it wasn’t fixed” Karl Berger! Men’s Longest Drive prize went to Stan Kahkonen of Nortel and Women’s to Rowena Penabella of Falconbridge. Closest to the Pin honours went to Rick Barnett, Linda Park, and Steven Brookes-Butler.
The sun and heat made an appearance in time for lunch and prize presentations. At the end of the day the effort that goes into putting on this tournament was well worth it. The Hospital for Sick Children gains and participants vow to return next year!
Next year’s tournament has already been booked. Mark your calendars for Saturday June 15, 2002! Glen Abbey Golf and Country Club made us an offer we couldn’t refuse. It will be an afternoon start followed by dinner. Look forward to seeing you there!
