FMAC Scores Big on Second Annual Charity Drive

EVEN MOTHER NATURE was in a giving mood this year as some 120 golfers from the financial markets gathered at the Angus Glen Golf and Country Club in Markham for the 2nd Annual FMAC Charity Golf Classic, Saturday, 20 June. Storm clouds that were gathering as the round started soon melted away to a pleasant mix of sun and cloud keeping players dry and scores impressively low.
The day turned out to be “classic” for both charity and golf. Course conditions were near perfect and the courteous and helpful staff at Angus Glen worked hard on and off the course to help make the day come off without a hitch.

In addition to a pleasant afternoon of golf, the day was marked by a tremendous outpouring of generosity by bankers, brokers, sponsors and prize donors alike raising some $45,000 for the traditional beneficiary, The Hospital for Sick Children. Congratulations and thank you to all who participated in making this year’s event an unqualified success.

Raffle ticket sales were fast and furious with three lucky ticket holders taking away some great prizes. The First Prize Bang and Olufson stereo went to Leslie Stevens (Tullet). Gary Cummings (Scotia McLeod) took the Second Prize trip to New York. The Third Prize mountain bike was won by Chris Cooper (Harlows).
The putting tournament (sponsored by Refco Capital Markets) was won by the steady hand of Neil Williams (CIBC Wood Gundy). Closest-to-the-Pin (sponsored by Reuters) tournament honours go to Sean Donaghy (Tullet), Roy Fong (UBS, Toronto), Gary Johnson (BOA, FCS), and Reid Farrill (CIBC Wood Gundy). In the “might is right” department, prizes for the Longest Drive went to Darcy Brown (Royal Bank) and Kevin Armstrong (Harlows). This year the tournament’s winning foursome came from the Royal Bank team of Darcy Brown, Ian Naysmith, Rick Barnett, and Tim Hirasawa. Their impressive score of 13 under par has set a standard of excellence for future tournaments. Congratulations to each of these fine golfers.
On behalf of the Hospital for Sick Children and the FMAC executive, thank you to all participants and sponsors who gave so generously to such a worthy cause.
